It's definitely hard to make connections when we feel light years away from other parents. There are no easy solutions either, it just takes time. It's one of the reasons my home and work lives are very separate - people at work just don't get it, other than the few that have been willing to listen and learn.
I just want to tell you I have really enjoyed reading your blog. My partner and I are in the process of adopting a sibling group from Ethiopia, so of course, I need to start blogging soon! I hope my blog can be as thoughtful, as informative, as honest, and as fun as yours. Thanks!
I have a lot of "acquaintances" where I work. I even go to lunch once/week with 2 women in the math dept. One of them has 2 boys who were foster-to-adopt, but to be quite honest, I prefer it when our conversations don't get on adoption. Yes, that's how differently we think. *sigh* Of course, I didn't realize that until we had already been doing this lunch thing for quite some time.
There are really 3 people where I work -- and let's see -- I wonder if we now have maybe 200 people on staff? More? -- that I consider friends. I really can't talk with any of them intensely about adoption issues though. That I can only do with online friends, or online friends I've meet IRL.
I'm the mother of one amazing son by miraculous birth. Now five years later, I'm the mother of one beautiful daughter too, this time through adoption from Ethiopia. I'm an overthinker extraordinaire, with an extraordinary family.

Key word being YET. :-)

Thanks! Please do let me know when you've started blogging so I can follow your journey!
I feel like that, too. Sadly, most of the "friends" with whom I have something in common are computer friends.
Yep. I hear ya.
